Top National Parks on the West Coast
The West Coast has boundless opportunities to go on adventures and explore nature. From snow peaked mountains to the rocky outcrops of the ocean, travelers can feel as if they’ve entered a different world within a matter of hours. In this article we’d like to highlight some of our favorite National Parks for RV owners to experience everything the West Coast has to offer.
Yosemite National Park, a Classic Adventure
Yosemite National Park is a place that you absolutely can’t miss. With 748,000 acres of land, this gigantic park has almost unlimited opportunities for adventures and sight-seeing and offers multiple days of content for those looking to spend any extended amount of time here. If you’re looking to get the most out of a single experience, we highly recommend hiking to Yosemite’s Sentinel Dome which gives hikers the opportunity to see some of the most famous locations such as Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, and Yosemite Valley. If you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, Yosemite seemingly has it all.
Ski or Boat at Crater Lake National Park
At a depth of just under 2,000 feet, Crater lake is the deepest lake in the United States. It is Oregon’s only National Park, but it certainly offers some strong competition with other West Coast National Parks (though there are many State Parks and picturesque conservation areas in Oregon). This lake offers scenes unlike any other with cliffs all around that drop into the water making this place feel sealed off from the world. During warmer seasons, visitors can go on a short hike to take the Volcano Boat tour which gives the opportunity to see the lake up close on the way to visit Wizard Island. During the winter it becomes an entirely new adventure. Visitors can find skiing spots at Rim Drives or go snowmobiling at the park’s North Entrance Road. Crater Lake is truly something you can come back to over and over again and experience something new each time.
Overlooking Grand Canyon National Park
We’ve all seen pictures of the Grand Canyon, but we can assure you that no picture can give this place justice. The only way to truly experience what really makes this location so grand is to see it for yourself. There are hundreds of adventures and hikes to take and there’s no way you’ll ever be able to experience everything in just a few visits. If you’re camping there in your RV or at one of the local lodges, take some time to view a sunrise or sunset, we can promise that the experience is worth it.
Remote Adventures at Denali National Park
Many of Alaska’s National Parks are remote and can be difficult to reach but Denali National Park is not one of those parks. There are dozens of options for RV camping making this adventure something that has to be on any RV owner’s bucket list. Despite the park’s popularity, it still has endless amounts of wildlife and millions of acres of undisturbed land to explore.
Yellowstone National Park has 60% of the World’s Geysers
Yellowstone is America’s first official National Park and also one of the most unique. The park sits on top of a super volcano and has created around 10,000 geothermal features which include 60% of the world’s geysers. Steaming hot springs, boiling mud pots, and colorful geysers to name just a few of these features. Make sure you consult official sources for news on geothermal activity because many things can be deceiving and dangerous. The park’s 3,472 miles of wilderness is home to bears, coyotes, wolves, and bison herds along with deer, elk, and many smaller animals. If you’re looking for something unlike anywhere else in the world, Yellowstone is certainly the best adventure for you.
Things to Consider Before Traveling
The threat of COVID-19 has changed the way that most US national parks operate. Before traveling to any of these locations, make sure you check official park websites to check for guidelines and safety measures as many services are not operating and some parks even require reservations. Checking current information not only can help keep you safe, but also others and the animals too. Have fun adventuring!
