Planning fun-filled holiday adventures? Why not include Fido? Pets are an important part of the family and are always down for an adventure! Here are some tips on making sure their vacation is just as fun as yours!

1. Pack a Bag

The first thing any wanderlusting dog owner should do is make sure that you have your dog’s necessities packed. Be sure to include the basics, like leashes, toys, a blanket, and poo bags. These are important to help make the transition to RV travel easier on your pup. It should make your pet feel at home in your RV.

2. Travel Treats

Travel treats can be very important for stressed out dogs. There are a variety in the market and will help take the edge off if your pet isn’t used to leaving the home much. Talk to your vet if you have any concerns and they can help point you in the right direction for your pet’s specific needs.

3. Busy Work

For your more high-energy breeds, it’s essential to provide them activities to do while driving for hours on end. This will help cut back with stress-related behaviors like chewing things they shouldn't be or pacing and panting. The more activities you provide, the harder it will be for the pet to notice things that may be scary for them. Some ideas for this are Kongs filled with peanut butter, bones, or pet puzzles like snuffle mats. For even more fun, teach your dog a new game using their noses! Scent work can be fun for everyone and very engaging for your pet. Just start with taking a treat or some kibble and hiding it out of sight. Your dog will have to rely on their noses to get their reward!

4. Fun Time

Finally, be sure to include your pet in a couple of your planned activities at your RV location, because taking the dog on a long trip just to be left behind the whole time is no fun! There are plenty of dog-related activities in most locations you can travel to in your RV. This includes even going for a hike, a swim, or finding a nearby dog park to play at for an hour or two.

Taking a pet on your family RV vacation can add many more happy memories to your trip. Just start with the basics and don’t forget to include your pooch in your adventures!
