National Hot Dog Month
July is National Hot Dog Month!
We hope that you’ll join in the celebration of one of America’s most favorite foods. Because the hot dog is such an integral part of America, National Hot Dog Month is celebrated in the same month that America celebrates her independence!
This month, we would like to recognize all different types of hot dog toppings from around the globe! Here are our top 5 favorite hot dogs, aside from our beloved ketchup, mustard, and relish dogs:
1. Greek Hot Dog
This simple hot dog includes your standard dog and bun, but the toppings are what makes it unique! Tzatziki, cucumber, and kalamata olives paired with the smoked sausage is a combination only made in dreams. Try this dog out for yourself this month!
2. Swedish Hot Dog
Paired with a delicious pork sausage and wheat bun, the toppings on this dog are to die for! Lingonberry jam, caramelized onions, and gravy make for the perfect combination of sweet and salty - you’re welcome in advance.
3. Venezuela Perro
The classic Venezuelan hot dog "with everything" is made with a simple boiled sausage, carrot and cabbage salad, diced onions, crispy potato sticks, grated cheese and lots of sauce. Try this hot dog with a sweet corn sauce for an extra umph!
4. South Korean Hot Dogs
A popular dish in South Korea is the breaded hot dog! They include all kinds of toppings mixed into the batter, such as potatoes, different sauces, and cheese! This dish has become increasingly popular in the U.S., as there are multiple restaurants in the Bay Area that serve this hot dog!
5. The Seattle Hot Dog
If you haven’t tried this one already, you are severely missing out! Not only did this familiar city give birth to grunge, it also brought us hot dogs with cream cheese - which we never knew we needed. It's very common to eat them with a Polish sausage and grilled onions. Other popular toppings are jalapeños and green onions! Try it with sriracha for an added kick!
