Decorating The Interior Of Your RV
As summer is wrapping up, it is a perfect time to spruce up your RV for your next RV adventure next year or this fall. Decorating or renovating your RV is so exciting! You get to have something that seems brand new, and something that will perfectly fit your style. Here are some tips to make decorating or renovating your RV as easy and stress-free as possible.
Find a Theme
Finding a theme is extremely important before decorating or renovating your RV. What do you want your RV to look like? Modern, Industrial, Coastal, Vintage/ Shabby Chic… The options are endless, but it is very important to know your style so you are able to visualize what you want. If you don’t know what you want, take a peek at Pinterest or Google Images with potential ideas. To give you a little bit of help and inspiration here are the most popular timeless trends going on.
• Modern: This typically refers to clean crisp lines and is often used simultaneously with the term sleek. There is the use of a black, white, and grey color pallet. Modern looks often use materials like metal, glass, and steel, and there is not much decorating as it is a very simplistic clean feel
- Traditional: This style takes on European sensibilities. Traditional homes offer rich color palettes, feature dark wood, and have a variety of textures. Traditional does not lack decorations.
- Rustic: This style often uses unfinished items and uses raw features. Rustic is always incorporating unfinished wood with raw edges, and sometimes brick or stone. The color pallet is very natural using whites, tans, creams, dark greens, and browns.
- Bohemian: This typically takes on inspiration from Moroccan designs. It includes detailed fabrics, intricate embroidery, rich colors, and multiple patterns. It also includes loads of pillows, plants, flowers.
- Coastal: Coastal decorating takes on the west-side beach house feel. There is typically a color pallet containing whites, beiges, and navy. Painted white shiplap is very common and so are striped patterns. There also is incorporation of seashells and anchor designs for decorations
Add Some Paint
Once you have your theme, your colors will come pretty naturally. A fresh coat of paint can make anything look better and newer! However, before you start painting your walls, cabinets, or decor it is extremely important to take the time to prime first. Your paint won’t stick as well, it will chip easier, and it will take more paint to do the job if you skip out on primer. Primer is a sticky coat of paint that is designed to adhere well, increase paint durability, and provide additional protection for the object being painted. Whether is new, old, or raw, primer is necessary!
Flooring
Don’t forget about your flooring! Floors can really make or break the way your RV will look. Replacing your carpet with hardwood-style laminate will always do a nice job sprucing up your RV. It is so important to not forget this step, but it, unfortunately, isn’t always easy. So, if you aren’t super handy, you may need to hire a professional for this one, or if you want to save some money and do it yourself make sure you check out some YouTube videos beforehand!
Make Your Decorations Work
It is obvious that you must be very strategic with your decorations when decorating your RV due to the movement of driving. With this being said, velcro strips are your new best friend! They will keep all of your items safe and secured no matter the motions of the vehicle. Use Velcro strips to strap centerpieces on your table, strap art to walls, and to strap plants or other decorations to your shelves for decorating. Keep in mind the weight that certain velcro strips can hold to be sure everything will be safe and in place!
Double- Duty Decor
It is no secret that when decorating your RV every decoration and furniture piece needs to be placed strategically in order to optimize room in your RV. You are working with a small space so you must be aware of the sizes of your decorations and furniture pieces. One tip is to make sure you get double- duty decor! For example, a couch that has storage built into it is perfect for storing blankets, sheets, and unused pillows. This gives you more space in one of your closets. Another idea is to make sure you utilize your wall space. You can have hanging baskets on your walls that hold necessity items, decorations, or food if they are hung in the kitchen area.
Decorating on a Budget
Decorating and especially renovating can become costly very quickly. However, since you are not renovating or decorating your entire house, it will cost quite a bit less since you are working with a smaller space. However, these are the best ways to spruce up your RV while still staying in your budget.
- Visit a thrift store. You don’t need to buy everything new, and in fact, used or “old” items can add so much character to your RV. Painting these used items, or refinishing them can make them look good as new.
- Visit a department store that offers premium brands at a discounted price. These are stores such as TJ Maxx and Ross. Make sure to check out how much you saved on your receipt after you visit these stores, it’s crazy!
- Instead of getting new cabinets, paint your current ones!
- Instead of getting all new floors, try a stick and peal which gives some character and a whole new look!
- Instead of buying an entirely new couch, sew a slipcover, or find a new one for cheap!
- MIRRORS. Mirrors help brighten the space they are in as well and make the space look larger. Mirrors are a great decoration that you can find anywhere on any budget!
