De-winterize Your RV

It is time to dust off your RV and get ready for Spring in Spokane Valley! Before you go off on your next great adventure, you will need to perform a basic maintenance check on your RV. The technicians at RV Northwest are pros at the de-winterization process and can take care of your servicing needs.

Why Should I De-winterize My RV?

Winterizing your RV is essential for its survival during Lewiston's cold winter, but did you know that undoing this process is just as important? Like animals coming out of hibernation, de-winterization consists of many tasks that you must perform before your RV is ready for the Spring season!

The most crucial part of de-winterizing is flushing the antifreeze entirely out of the plumbing system. While antifreeze is a great proactive measure when avoiding leftover water in your pipes and tanks from freezing, it no longer benefits your system in warmer weather conditions.

Care for RV at Home During the Winter Season

Professional care is highly recommended, but there are a few things you can do to help de-winterize your RV at home by assessing the following:

Roof: Your safest option for storing your RV during the winter months is under a roof and with a cover. Whether you do this or not, you have to check the RV's roof for damages once it comes out of hibernation. If there are any issues like rust or a broken AC, you'll want to consult an RV technician.

Tire Pressure: Did you know that tires can lose up to 3 psi a month due to cold weather? Checking your RV's tire pressure is a must, and refer to the owner manual to re-inflate them if necessary. At this point, it is also wise to recheck your spare and tires for any other issues.

Appliances: Ensure your RV is fully functional by inspecting its interior and exterior appliances, including your outside awning, microwave, and stove.

Batteries: An RV will not start if the batteries are not working correctly! Battery discharge can freeze and crack, and your fluid levels can get low, so make sure you perform a visual inspection and check its voltage.

De-winterize Your RVs Plumbing and Water System

Frozen water during the winter months is your RV's worst enemy. Your pipes and tanks can be significantly damaged when water freezes and expands.

All it takes to de-winterize your plumbing system is a simple flush of bleach, and then you are good to go! However, this flushing process is more complicated for more complex RV systems, and we recommend professional help.
