Antifreeze:

Parts - RVs Northwest

RV/Marine non-toxic antifreeze is probably the most misunderstood commodity in our industry today. There are currently three different varieties on the market at three very different prices.

Ethanol (alcohol) based: This type of antifreeze is most readily available in hardware stores and general RV shops. While it is less expensive than other products, this product is also extremely flammable and not to be used around any sort of pilot flames or cigarettes. As well, this product has been known to taint certain RV plumbing systems and is only to be used with Quest or Pex plumbing lines. If you have ever used this product you will quickly remember how bad you water smelled and tasted the next spring. Furthermore, because this product is made from alcohol it works to dry out all the rubber seals readily found in your faucets and toilet. As a result, we do not recommend or sell this product.

Propylene Glycol based: This product is only available at your local RV shop (and not every RV shop for that matter).  Like the ethanol antifreeze, this product is non-toxic and safe for all RV plumbing. However, propylene glycol does not have the same fire safety warnings, nor the risk of tainting your RV plumbing system. Furthermore, propylene glycol is a lubricant and will actually work to extend the life of the seals in your faucets and toilets, unlike the ethanol based products. This is the only product we use on our own RVs and the only product we sell in our parts store.

Propylene/Ethanol Blend: Again this product is non-toxic and completely safe for RV plumbing systems. This may seem like a good idea, however, it is unknown how much ethanol is required to taint RV plumbing lines and dry out plumbing seals. For that reason we do not recommend this product.

Heated Water Hose:

Parts - RVs Northwest
  • Keeps drinking water flowing in sub-zero temperatures.
  • Heating source is self regulating, supplying additional heat as temperatures drop, no thermostat required.
  • Heavy duty zippered insulation cuffs at each end are included for added freeze protection.
  • Our AquaFRESH Heated high pressure drinking water hose has a 3-year warranty.

Holding Tank Heater:

Parts - RVs Northwest

In RVs, not all holding tanks that are enclosed are heated. If the fresh, gray, and black water tanks are not heated or a furnace duct isn't running specifically to the tanks, the water in them can freeze, causing large amounts of damage. To handle temperatures below freezing, you can affix thermostatically-controlled heating pads specifically made for plastic holding tanks. These pads have an adhesive backing that is used to stick the pad to the holding tank. Simply peel and stick, after cleaning the bottom of the tanks of course. The pads have dual voltage meaning your tanks are protected while driving or parked. The built-in thermostat automatically activates the heater when the temperature of the thermostat reaches approximately 34 degrees. We currently have these tank heaters in stock, so you can protect your holding tanks.

Dry-Z-Air:

Parts - RVs Northwest

This is an inexpensive chemical dehumidifier that helps remove moisture from the air inside your RV. It also helps remove any musty smell that develops from the moisture. You need to use this when you are storing your RV no matter where in the country you live. The walls in RVs obsorb moisture quickly and easily. Mold can form and the wooden walls can deform. The Dry-Z-Air consists of a small plastic dish about 6 inches in diameter with a basket on top. Inside the basket are crystals that absorb moisture. The moisture then drips into a dish below the basket. It simply sits on a shelf or table, requires no electricity, and is odorless. You just need to empty the liquid out of the bottom as it fills up. We keep these simple dehumidifiers in stock, along with extra crystals for refilling.
